How many inches high at 200 yards should I set my field?
I'm shooting a Win 0300. Mag. I shoot 165 grain Hornady SST. I said and repeat. I'm shooting 150 to 400 meters. It is not uncommon where I come from hunting to shoot that far.
If you were to zero at 200 meters instead of aiming high, your points of impact at 100, 300, 400 and 500 would be, in inches 100: +1.3 300: - 6.2 400: - 18.1 500 to 36.6 Assuming you're accustomed to long distance shooting, compensate for wind and other factors, your weapon is easily capable of taking the game over these distances. At 500 yards, the 165gr SST still has around 2108 ft / lbs of energy. Do not worry too much all of us people in the east. We're just jealous that we do not get to hunt the kind of terrain you're doing. We're lucky to see a lot more deer 50 yards. (Of course, some of us are concerned with ethics, too, especially when someone wants to know "sniper rifle" for deer.)
