Best Scope Rings for a rifle?
I'm looking at a range of high quality base really / Rifle Scope rings Leupold. What do you recommend? The scope I intend to use is a Leupold VX-II Rimfire 3-9x. The rifle I intend use is an Anschutz 64 MPR.
Avoid aluminum brackets and rings .... Steel will be stronger and more resistant to misuse (or more chance of keeping your zero if dropped) Personally, I do not tip-off or Leuplold (AKA Redfield or "standard") type mounts. My first choice Picatinny is a (IE "1913") mount, Weaver Style (not to be confused with Weaver brand) is my second choice. Many believe that these are the same, this is not true at all, Picatinny bases are made more precise standards. You can put Picatinny Weaver Style Rings on a base, but you rarely Rings Picatinny style base on a Weaver. A base of a piece is also stronger, and pays part of his forces to the receiver that can improve accuracy. However, for some guns that require you to load the top of the receiver becomes a bit more difficult to load with a piece of a basic. Warne, Ken Farrell (Sp?), Millet all make a Very Nice Piece Base, Burris Xtreme Tactical IMO is the best basis of two pieces, you can buy (I use on my gun) However, I think the best "you can get for your gun will be Warne Maxima bases .... they will be a steel base in two pieces, the cost is ~ $ 20 and is a quality product rings are obvious - Burris Signature Rings, expect to spend $ 40 + ... The inserts are offset a an additional $ 10-12, but are generally not necessary. When you install a scope you want as low as possible, without provided that the objective is in contact with the barrel. When I'm unknown field number / mount / ring / rifle package I choose the database, I'll use, then assemble the package using low-priced "Super High" rings I keep on hand for this very purpose. I then use a caliper to measure the distance between the field and the barrel, then subtract .125 "from this measurement, then subtract this height Scope Ring. For example, if I measure 0415" between the gun and scope with 1.025 rings my test, I would look for a ring that is 0415 '0415 grand - 0.125 = 0.610 1.025 to 0.610 = 0.415 I can use "High" Burris Signature rings measuring 0420 "Burris Signature rings for 1" scope and Weaver-style bases are available in 0270 "(Medium) and 0420 (higher) heights
